What We Do

Longleaf Materials Research’s primary mission to is make materials knowledge accessible to startups and small companies. We offer guidance, support, and services across the full range of materials usage, from fundamental R&D and material selection to manufacturing and failure analysis through on-demand consulting, discrete test/support programs, or fractional M&P engineer services. We can also provide or develop training for M&P best practices, design considerations for materials and manufacturing, and other materials topics to ensure your success with materials. LMR is also interested in collaborative material and process development opportunities.

Services

LMR specializes in a range of services that include materials and processes (M&P) review/support for design & manufacturing, failure analysis, heat treatment development, corrosion protection strategies, coating selection, process troubleshooting, and data-driven materials analysis. We also offer metallographic laboratory services such as specimen mounting, polishing, etching, and optical examination, and can also provide advanced characterization via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), chemical analysis with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).  Our team has experience working with startups, who may only need fractional M&P support, as well as established companies. We can help overcome materials-related challenges and implement practical solutions.
